Small Samurai in Football

I play football regularly. It is not easy for my age to run, run and run with younger players. Even harder; I only started to play football in my mid age, meaning only 5 years self-trained experience. Most others play in their lifetime. Even harder; I'm small and opponents are often big and tall. Imagine a little Samurai without a blade fights against Goliath of Van Dijk or Rüdiger. In the era of athletic and physical football, there is no way to shine. However, there is David; Some people are amazed that I can play quite well for my age. I play as left wing and score often. Giant killing is possible

I'm not here to flatter myself. As I have least experience of football, I have to use my brain to play competitively.

So, here is the secret.

  1. Find space where no opponents are near. Given my limitations above, I cannot easily win if you play physically. Good news is the pitch is big. If I can play without a lot of physical contact and pressure, I can manage.
  2. Play near skilled teammates. If I want to score, the best thing I can do is to score easily. The best situation is there is no goal keeper in front of the goal, right? This will hardly happen. But, there are many chances where I just need to push the ball without much power, if the keeper or defenders cannot react. This cannot be done alone. I "use" skilled players. They are so dangerous that they can attract a couple of players nearby. Then, space becomes available. I just run into the box in the right time, and wait for a good cross. Bang. Easy-peasy. The same goes for assist. I can assist easier if I use Lewandowski or Mbappé who can score in a difficult situation
  3. Get trust from other teammates. This is very important. For the first time I play in a team, I might not get the ball from the teammates. Why? Because they do not know me. If I lose the ball easily, the teammates will not look at me. Only after they feel comfortable to let me play, they start passing to me. If I do not get the ball, no way to score. So, I have to convince them before anything else. Here comes the second tip into play. If I play well with a help of a great player, I get trust from him/her. If I get that, I automatically get trust from all other teammates. They start relying on me. Then, I have more chance to score

What I wanted to say is not football tips. (although you are welcome to steal my idea). To win a game, it is easier if you have excellent teammates. Even if you are not a great talent, if you find Lionel Messi alongside, you can win the game with him. You score, assist, or defend well, and the team wins; that's the glory of the teamwork. The other way around is also possible; we lose the game, if the teamwork is not optimal. In that case, we need good communication to build the team. In conclusion, we look for win-win collaborations like this for greater achievements

One last small football tip. While using the three tips above, do not forget to (secretly) train yourself to skill up your techniques and physicals. You need at least basic skills and it is best to catch up with experienced players. There is plenty of room to improve for beginners, while matured players will not normally get any better. As you experience more, your effort will pay off. It makes even easier to get trust from the teammates. Let's work hard to become one of the best players on the pitch without letting them notice. At the end of the day, they will not remember how bad you were in the beginning. Good luck!

"There are some people who might have better technique than me, and some may be fitter than me, but the main thing is tactics. With most players, tactics are missing. You can divide tactics into insight, trust and daring. In the tactical area, I think I just have more than most other players."
